Main Iris Show:  Discussion of the iris show to be held Saturday June 8, in Penney's Court.  Skirting would be nice for the 10 tables, but a decision has been made not to mention it.  Staging area must be cleaned up and vacated prior to judging.  Show schedule booklet is being printed by Pete Addeo and will be available at the May meeting.

NEW BUSINESS

Memories Story Book:  Donna Dowell passed around a hard cover leather-bound photo book which she put together featuring stories and photos of active members.  The stories emphasized everyone's contribution and years of membership in MIS.  Thank you, Donna.  Donna mentioned that no iris were shown in the book because all photos were lost.

Information on showing iris:  Betty Ann passed out a two page information sheet on showing iris.  This information will be placed on the website and at the end of this newsletter.

Transporting iris:  Discussion on methods used by members to transport their iris safely to the show.  Some methods include newspapers in a bucket, milk jugs, pvc pipe in buckets of water.

Judging credits:  Discussion on importance of paying AIS dues in a timely manner, because Donna Dowell lost her credits toward becoming a judge because her dues were late.

Showing Irises by Maryann Anning

If you grow and care for your irises properly, you have the same chance as anyone else to bring home a ribbon, even from your first show.  It takes good culture, a good iris, careful handling and grooming and some knowledge of what iris judges will be looking for.  The most important thing to remember is that your specimen is judged on how it looks at the time it is being judged, not when it was cut or what it might look like the next day.  Here are some pointers on what judges look for, as well as a few "how to's" and "don'ts" on handling and grooming.
